1. Organic Longjing Tea: Green Tea
Sometimes called by its literal translated name Dragon Well Tea. It is a variety of pan-roasted green tea from the area of Longjing Village in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. It is produced mostly by hand and renowned for its high quality, earning it the China Famous Tea title.
Like most Chinese green tea, Longjing tea leaves are roasted early in processing (after picking) to stop the natural oxidation process, which is a part of creating black and oolong teas.
Studies have shown green tea has the highest oxidants and can assist in Weight Loss, Stress Relief, Cancer prevention and general health and wellbeing benefits.
Stored in a cool and dry environment, green teas like Longjing can stay fresh for up to 2, maybe 3, years.
2. Organic English Breakfast Tea:
English Breakfast is a traditional blend of black tea, the exact recipe for which varies from maker to maker. However, most often the tea leaves are sourced from different estates in East Africa, Ceylon and Assam and then combined to produce a characteristically full bodied brew. Master Blenders search the globe for the best blends and make sure that each batch of English Breakfast is examined, tried and tasted. The weather and growing conditions change all the time but Master Blenders ensure that each and every morning your favourite cup tastes just as delicious as you’d expect it.
This blend isn’t just perfect for starting your day; it is also great to get you through your busy schedule every day. It is one of the most popular blended teas. English breakfast tea is a black tea blend usually described as full bodied and full of flavour, robust, rich and blended to go well with milk and sugar but equally as nice without.
Benefits of English Breakfast Tea
Flavonoids in both black and green tea prevent oxidation of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, reduce blood clotting and improve widening of blood vessels in the heart.
Green tea might get the most health buzz when it comes to antioxidants, but black teas like English breakfast tea boast plenty of antioxidants, too. While green tea is the best source of catechins, a type of antioxidants, English breakfast tea contains other antioxidants called theaflavins and thearubigins.
3. Loose leaf tea verses Tea Bags:
Organic Tea sold by us at Mad Hatters Organic Tea is loose leaf. While it’s convenient to drop a tea bag in your mug and add boiling water it really doesn’t compare to a brewed pot of your favourite tea.
One of the main points in favour of loose leaf tea is that, generally speaking, it’s higher quality than the tea in tea bags. Sometimes, tea bags are used as a way to disguise lower quality tea leaves, but with loose leaf you can’t get away with that. If you bought loose leaf tea and found shredded, crumbled leaves mixed in with dustiness, you’d probably not be too pleased, but that’s common to see in bagged teas. Many tea bags are made up of the dust and fannings of full leaf tea.
This doesn’t mean that there aren’t companies putting high quality teas into bags, and it doesn’t mean that all loose leaf is automatically superior, but as a rule of thumb, you’ll usually pay a bit more for loose leaf tea and it will be of a higher quality than that in tea bags. When buying tea from us we usually include a few organic bags, so if you want to take a few tea bags to work you can bag them in advance. 1 teaspoon to a bag is usually enough to make a good size mug or a 2 cup tea.
